Decoction: boil the root and then turn it to a simmer for 20mins. Turn off the heat and let it sit for the same amount of time. Many folks enjoy roasting this root and making a tea, as the roasted root makes a wonderful replacement for coffee in terms of taste.
Maude Grieve gives this recepie for gall stones: 1oz dandelion root, 1 oz parsley root, 1 oz lemon balm, ½ oz ginger root, ½ oz licorice root - decocted in 2 quarts of water and simmered down to 1 quart. Strain and take a wineglass full every two hours. Note that “wineglass full” in Ms. Grieve’s time was 2-3 oz!
