Ingredients & Sourcing

  • Our primary source for most of our herbs is Oshala Farms, a beautiful organic herb farm in southern Oregon. We get a number of herbs from local gardeners who provide us with some of the most beautiful quality, locally grown herbs we could ask for. By summertime of 2025, we will be increasing the amount of herbs we get from these folks!

We wildcraft a handful of herbs that really do need to be fresh for the best medicine and have these available seasonally - like St. John’s Wort. Our approach to wildcrafting is to always leave enough for the birds, insects, other critters and humans who may also want to harvest a bit. We leave places looking like we’ve almost never been there.

  • All of our ingredients are organic or wildcrafted.

  • Our wildflower honey comes from Eternal Honey Co. and is both local, raw, and unfiltered. Raw unfiltered honey contains more vitamins, minerals, and amino acids. They also supply us with our beeswax!

Tinctures

  • After squeezing the pipette to fill it completely, you can take the tincture directly in your mouth or dilute it in an ounce or two of water. It’s up to you!

  • We will typically recommend our 60ml or 100ml size for most of our tinctures. The reason is, they are most effective when taking 2-3 dropperfulls 2-3 times/day. A 60ml bottle has about 60 dropper fulls in it, so taking 2 dropperfuls a day will last you a month and 4 dropperfuls will last you 2 weeks. The 100ml size will last you about a month if you are taking 4 dropper fulls a day.

We have a 30ml size available for some of our tinctures that are taken on an as-needed basis like our digestive bitters or pain relieving tinctures.

  • We think your medicine should taste good. Not only does a bit of honey help the medicine go down, but honey als assists in extracting the beneficial chemical constituents from the plants.

  • No, not really! As long as they are stored in a dark place, tinctures will last a very long time. Our violet glass helps keep out rays that would otherwise tamper with your tincture and our tinctures are made with more than 30% alcohol, the minimum amount needed to preserve the medicine.

That said, letting them sit for too long will allow for sediment to fall out of the tincture and collect at the bottom. This is harmless but may affect the taste of your tincture. It is helpful to decant your tincture if you haven't used it up within a year.

  • One standard dose for most of our tinctures is 1-2 ml. We make the majority of our extracts using 40% alcohol, meaning 40% of your dose will be alcohol. That comes out to .04-08 ml of alcohol per dose which is less than the amount of alcohol in a bottle of kombucha! Your standard 16oz bottle of Kombucha has 2-4 ml of alcohol.

  • Tinctures are generally safe for children, however the dosage will be different for children based on their age/weight and the herbs in the tincture are to be considered. As always, consult your child’s healthcare practitioner.

Note that children under 6 months old can receive medicine via the mother’s breast milk, with the mother taking a full dose of the herb. For children over this age or those who are bottle feeding, the dose can be added to a bottle or juice. We advise diluting the tincture and caution against putting the dropper directly in the child’s mouth.

The chart below notes the dosage for children from Rosemary Galdstar’s Herbal Remedies for Children’s Health.

Young's Rule - Add 12 to the child's age. Divide the child's age by this total. Example: dosage for a 4 year old: 4 divided by 16 (4+12) = .25, or 1/4 of the adult dosage.

Cowling's Rule - Divide the number of the child's next birthday by 24. Example: dosage for a child who is 3, turning 4 would be: 4 divided by 24 = .16, or 1/6 of the adult dosage.

Bulk Herbs & Tea

  • We’ll package your herbs for you in a brown paper bag. This is suitable for getting your herbs to you, whether you’ve come into the shop or we’re shipping your herbs.

It’s important to store your herbs in an air-tight container and out of any light. A mason jar in a designated herb cupboard is a great option. Be sure to label your jars with the herb and date of purchase!

If you’re traveling, it’s handy to have your herbs labeled in small brown paper bags that are stored in one big ziplock bag.

  • This really does depend on proper storage! The best way to test your herbs is to smell them and observe their coloring. If they’ve lost their scent or color, they’re starting to lose their medicine.

With proper storage, leaves and flowers last 1-2 years. Roots and fruits can last up to 4 years. That said, fresh is best! Your spent herbs make great offerings to fire and compost.

  • For leaves and flowers, put 1 tbsp per 1 cup of water in a jar or teapot and pour boiling water overtop. Allow the herbs to steep in the water for around 15 minutes, then strain and enjoy.

For roots and fruits, put 1 tsp per 1 cup of water in a small pot or teapot and simmer the herbs in a pot of water for 20 minutes, then strain and enjoy.

  • Yes! Tea and water based extractions are some of the oldest ways of treating our ailments we have. The standard medicinal dose of tea for an adult is 1 cup 3-4x/day.
