Postpartum Healing: Food as Medicine and Herbs as Allies

  • Hedgerow Herb Co. 811 East Burnside Street Portland, OR, 97214 United States (map)

There are 5 cross-cultural essentials of postpartum care, deeply rooted in womyn’s physiologic and psychologic needs postpartum. We simply need to follow this map for postpartum wellness.

Guided by local herbalist and nurse, Laura, this 2 hour workshop will offer a dive into 3 of the following 5 essentials to postpartum healing:

Warmth, Appropriate Postpartum Foods/Herbs and Community

We will cover:
+ moxa
+ herbal sitz baths, vaginal steaming
+ herbal tea
+ Abhyanga (warm oil, Ayurvedic massage)
+ foods that are warm in temperature, warm in nature, easy to digest, and nutrient-dense

Along with these essentials, our time together will explore Community as foundational to postpartum, as NONE of the other essentials of postpartum healing can happen without community support.

And so, we welcome pregnant womyn, mothers and family members, the wider web of family support,  birth workers and other maternal health care providers, as well as folks who would like to have a family in the future and/or simply those who feel passionate about supporting mothers.

"As if we want to "take care of" the future generations, we MUST begin by taking care of the MOTHERS. Supporting Mothers supports healthy and empowered families, which supports thriving communities, which supports all of humanity.” ~Innate Traditions
