Zarzo Willow Tray Weaving Skillshare

Join dear friend of Hedgerow Herb Co. Marisa Rutto for an evening of weaving with willow. In this class we will be learning to weave a zarzo tray made from willow tended and harvested by Marisa. These versatile trays, woven in the style of Danish gardener and weaver Ulla Misser, are wonderful for drying your freshly harvested herbs, holding the fruits of your foraging or grocery harvests on your counter top, or keeping your in-process craft project all in one place.

The zarzo tray is a simple beginner willow project, making this class a wonderful opportunity for those who have not yet worked with weaving willow, or those who want to practice the skill in circle with others.

Your ticket includes:
+ hands on instruction
+ finished tray crafted by your hands
+ a space to reconnect to ancestral lifeways in community

Please bring:
+ hand pruners
+ sharp knife

In times when a quick click of a button can have any good delivered to your door, at a great cost to both workers and the earth body, learning slow crafts and ways of old empowering gift to oneself and an important lifeway to keep alive through practice.

Please sign up before January 18th.
If having the full amount for the ticket by that date is a limiting factor for you, please email the shop at info@hedgerowherbco.com to pay a portion of the ticket as a non-refundable materials deposit and be prepared to pay the remainder before class.

Your Facilitator

Marisa a basket weaver, seamstress, and maker of many things. She has studied the craft of basked weaving under Margret Matthewson, who works primarily with willow outside of Corvallis, OR. Marisa is passionate about the preservation of traditions and supporting herself and others in keeping these crafts. She has studied the ways of folk medicine and folk magic, bringing an animist worldview to her craft work. When she is not weaving, mending, or making, she may be singing in the woods she resides in, where willow grows in abundance, fixing a friends car, or warming Hedgerow with her laughter.
