MUGWORT | Artemisia vulgaris

$5.00

A very magical plant indeed, Mugwort also has an important place in the medicine cabinet. A highly protective plant, Mugwort, along with many of her cousins in the Artemisia family, have been used to protect homes from unwanted spirits, cleanse spaces, and protect against nightmares. Mugwort is known to support the “second sight,” or psychic and intuitive capacities. It is for this reason that Mugwort may make one’s dream world more vivid and support dream recall. One of her other names, “Cronewort” tells us of the wisdom she holds.

On the other end of things, Mugwort is also called “Maiden’s Wort,” indicating her use as a supportive herb for the menstruating person. Mugwort is an emmenagogue, meaning she will help bring on late menses and loosen up a stagnant flow, thus helping ease menstrual cramping.

As a bitter herb, Mugwort may be helpful in cases of gas and bloating as well as help stimulate digestion and support bile flow.

  • Infusing Mugwort in hot water for 5-15 minutes yields a wonderful tea. A strong tea can be made overnight and use as a cleansing wash on the body during dark and full moons. The herb can be burned over an incense charcoal for cleansing and spirit work, and an oil or salve infused with the herb can be used to support dreaming and meditation.

One of Madrone’s favorite preparations after eating a big, heavy meal, is a tea made with Mugwort, Spearmint, and Salal Leaf (red raspberry leaf works great here, too!)
