NETTLE | Urtica dioica

$8.00

Part: Leaf
Sold by the ounce

This dark green, springtime herb of the hedgerow is packed with essential minerals and known for its high and bioavailable iron content. Due to its high mineral content, Nettle is a rich, regenerative tonic that brings nourishment, luster, and shine, to hair, skin, and nails. Nettle as inhibits the production of DHT, the hormone linked to male and female hair loss. Daily strong infusions of Nettle can be very helpful in times of fatigue as it helps to oxygenate the blood. One of the first greens of spring, nettle can help us replenish after a long winter, but is also an indispensable addition to your medicine cabinet year round. Nettle is a potent anti-histamine, and an effective remedy for seasonal allergies and general inflammation. Nettle may help to stabilize blood sugar and restore the adrenals. Through the nourishment of blood, Nettle is supportive to people with menstrual cycles and for those with postpartum, and may also support those in their menopause phase of life.

The infamous needles that irritate the skin tell us that the plant knows something about boundaries, and might help us with our own. It is said in Traditional Chinese Medicine that the spirit anchors itself in the blood. Perhaps, then, having our blood so nourished by Nettle helps us to feel grounded in our bodies.

A Scottish saying goes, “If they ate nettles in march and drank mugwort in May, so many fine maidens would not go to the clay.”
