About your Facilitator

Jessica safely assists those traversing the ever-shifting emotional landscapes that mark the significant Rite of Passage - Labor & Birth. In addition to helping create deeper connections with the baby in utero, Jessica is called to hold space for womb-keepers who have experienced unexpected birth experiences, are survivors of trauma and are looking for answers they sense are beyond the medical models. As a mother of two, who has continuously veered away from status quo, she understands the importance of judgment-free support that all potential parents deserve.

Jessica's began practicing trauma-informed care as a rape crisis advocate in Charlotte, NC in 1996.  For five years, she protected individuals who were admitted to local hospitals from midnight to 6:00 am, ensuring that physicians, police and staff treated them with dignity and respect. Between birthing her two daughters, she earned a Masters in Clinical Psychology at Antioch University in Los Angeles and practiced as a psychologist intern at the oldest running public clinic in LA county.  Over the years, she has attended many Midwifery and Pre-and-Perinatal conferences.   Her birth community knowledge base was further supplemented with in-person trainings and workshops
with Penny Simkin, PT (When Survivors Give Birth); Pam England (Birthing from Within); and Gerhard Schroth, MD (Prenatal Bonding). In addition to helping parents navigate pregnancy and birth at BirthHeart, Jessica volunteers at the world's first peer-to-peer grief center for children in Portland, Oregon.

With a growing awareness of the needs of pregnant clients wanting to follow tenants of natural childbirth,  Jessica has chosen to opt out of the clinical setting to provide a more intimate and holistic experience.  Oftentimes, the intuitive relationship between her and the baby in utero reveals itself during sessions.   Jessica's goal in facilitating groups, one-on-one mentoring or running workshops
is to help find meaning in obstacles, gain personal insight, alleviate fears and create positive methods for living life to its fullest potential. This is all to manifest the ability for each person to be a mindful and present as possible during their Pregnancy and Birth in order to create an optimal foundation for the first months of their newborn's lives.

"Pregnancy is a time of powerful transition and an opportunity to reclaim your own identity. My super power is to empower you create your own birthing landscape. Some fears will dissipate with science-informed knowledge. Some needs can be neutralized with connective practices like mantras. Some dreams can be journaled and offer guidance. Some histories can be resolved during pregnancy, and some can be stored away to explore  safely after the birth. Let's make room for the bliss and satisfaction everyone deserves in birth!"    Jessica Deltac, MA
