Tincture Making | Part 1 of the Herbal Extraction Medicine Making Series

Herbal Extraction pt. 1: Tincturing

Medicine Making Series

An autumnal evening of medicine making at Hedgerow Herb Co. During this workshop, you will gain an introduction to herbal extractions. What is herbal extraction and why do we do it? Is tincturing the only way? Why might you tincture something? And how? Fresh herbs vs. dried. Folk method vs. scientific. We will cover much ground in this 3 hour class.

During our time together, you will get the opportunity to workshop a tincture and choose from our herb wall to start your very own. You will have the chance to ask questions and get support formulating your own tincture blend. This simple medicine making practice will be demystified by Hedgerow Co-Owner Madrone McCarthy.

About your facilitator

Madrone began making medicines in 2016, first studying through the lens of ayurveda before tuning to western herbalism. Madrone spent time work trading with local herbalist to learn how to make medicines while reading through curriculums given by herbalists like Rosemary Gladstar. She has been trained in the wise woman tradition by Yaya Erin Rivera Merriman and has completed two years of folk medicine and folk magic study under local PNW herbalist Corinne Boyer. Her time spent with these women and in the woods has and continues to be central to her practice.

Before opening Hedgerow, Madrone made medicines at a local Portland based apothecary, where she got the opportunity to practice tincturing and medicine making using the scientific method. Her two years spent in this portion has given her a range of practiced knowledge pertaining to working with herbs for supporting oneself and supporting the community at large.

Madrone values supportive, community centered, and relaxing learning environments. Making medicine often feels empowering and she is so very happy to share these skills.
